Disable and delete keys

This page is for organization admins. It explains how to stop a key without losing its history, where to find the keys you have stopped, and how to clean them up later, by hand or automatically.

Disable a key

A disabled key refuses every request until you enable it again. Nothing else changes: it keeps its name, models, key fields and spending limit, and its usage stays in your reports.

  1. Open the API Keys page.
  2. Select the power icon (Disable key) on the key's row and confirm.

The key gets a Disabled label at once. To use it again, select the power icon on the same row (Enable key).

Disable a key rather than delete it when you still need its usage, for example to invoice a customer for the tokens their key used this month, or when you may need the key again.

The Disabled keys page

Disabled keys in the menu lists every disabled key in your organization, longest disabled first. For each key you see its key fields, when it was disabled and by whom, and when the automatic cleanup will delete it. Org admins can Enable or Delete a key from here; viewers see the page read-only.

Deleting a key cannot be undone, and anyone using it is cut off for good. Its usage stays in your reports, under the key's name and key fields.

Organizations whose keys are disabled, not deleted

For some organizations Zeldoc.ai sets keys to be disabled instead of deleted, typically when the organization invoices its own customers from its key fields. Org admins then have no Delete on the API Keys page: they disable a key there and delete it on the Disabled keys page. Sending someone a new ZConnect key, or ending a person's ZDev seat, then disables the keys that would otherwise be deleted.

Automatic cleanup

Instead of deleting disabled keys by hand, you can let Zeldoc.ai delete them once they have been disabled for a while:

  1. Open Disabled keys.
  2. Under Automatic cleanup, tick Delete disabled keys automatically.
  3. Enter the number of days a key stays disabled before it is deleted, and select Save.

The table then shows the date each key will be deleted. Enabling a key in time keeps it. Choose a period that leaves room to invoice the month a key was disabled in; the page tells you when a period is shorter or longer than it allows.

Usage after a key is disabled or deleted

A disabled or deleted key's usage stays in the usage breakdown on the Organization page, marked Disabled or Deleted, and in the Reporting API: each key in the key-usage report has disabled_at while it is disabled and deleted_at once it has been deleted, and a deleted key keeps the name and key field values it had when it was deleted.

Keys deleted before 12 October 2026 were not recorded this way. Their usage is still reported, but under "(deleted key)" or the key's last name, without key fields.
